The Beach Boys

We are four guys ( Klein, James, Ryan M and Ryan P) from Bucklands Beach Intermediate, Auckland. We are in Room 11 and this is our enquiry unit to help solve issues in our community. For our inquiry we are going to local beaches to clean them up to: a) Make a better impression on our beaches to make our community more representable. b) To make our waterways cleaner because if there is rubbish on the beach and the tide comes in and takes the rubbish away in the water and traps the fish which causes them to die. We feel that this is a good issue to work with because there is nothing worse than going to the beach on a nice summers day and seeing rubbish fly passed you.

Our Trip :)
On the 23rd of October we went to Eastern Beach for our inquiry trip to pick up all the rubbish on the beach. We picked up 3 full plastic bags of rubbish. It was a real disappointment to see so much rubbish on a wonderful beach that is used every day. We walked from our school down the stairs to Eastern Beach. We got out our gloves and rubbish bags and got to work. The main things we found were bottles (beer bottles in a no drinking zone), bottle caps and cigarette butts and boxes. Remarkably, Ryan P picked up over 100 cigarette butts in a little bit of the beach. James was by the water and picked up a lot of packets and old bits and pieces with seaweed all over it. Klein was in the middle on a little bank and picked up everything and anything he saw. When we got to the end of the beach we emptied out our bags of rubbish and felt proud of the day we had. We were'nt really expecting the amount of rubbish which is a real shame because there was so much more then we anticipated.

Reflection

We went to Eastern Beach on the 23rd of October. our aim was to clean up the beach and we all think we have achieved our goal. We hope that the beach stays alot more cleaner now but we will still need alot more people to help the beach's of New Zealand clean! We still want to keep this beach clean and we need you to help too.
